Viva Fiesta! Chamber Chairman Loses His Ugly Tie

In keeping with Fiesta tradition, Chamber Chairman Jim Greenwood, Vice President Governmental Affairs at Valero, proudly displayed the ugliest tie in town. The tie was promptly cut in half at the Fiesta Opening Ceremonies on April 26, signifying the start to eleven days of casual attire and relaxed atmosphere of the celebration.

“Fiesta is that one-of-a-kind, citywide festival that can’t be replicated anywhere in the nation, and it really tells a great story of an entire city joining to celebrate and put our hearts together to raise money for many worthy causes across the region,” Chamber President and CEO Richard Perez said.

Recognized as one of the nation’s great festivals, similar to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Fiesta also brings many out of town guests who visit every year for the 11-days of festivities. It is estimated that the Fiesta tourists have an economic impact of $284 million or more, according to the Fiesta Commission, which ran a study in 2009.
