College Finalists Compete for National Title During San Antonio’s Cybersecurity Summit

San Antonio is once again hosting the national championship for college level cybersecurity students. The National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (NCCDC) regional championships will take place on April 20-22 at the St. Anthony Hotel. This year’s regional champs contending for the top prize include graduate and undergraduate level students from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, Rochester Institute of Technology, Air Force Academy, UNC Charlotte, Texas A&M University, Towson University and St. Cloud State University

NCCDC is unique in that is focuses on the operational aspect of managing and protecting an existing network infrastructure. Teams are scored based on their ability to detect and respond to outside threats, maintain availability of existing services such as mail and web servers, respond to business requests such as the addition or removal of additional services, and balance security needs against business needs.

The competitions provide valuable practical experience for students in a sector that needs more talented workers to meet growing cyber challenges and are a great source of talent for sponsors.

The Chamber’s IT Committee has worked for the past four years with the NCCDC to host the Cybersecurity Summit in conjunction with this competition. San Antonio’s top cybersecurity industry leaders will be exposed to the hotbed of talent competing across the hall for the nation’s top honors.
